Team Secret Scores second Major Win

DreamLeague Season 8 was dominated by Team Secret, making them the team with the highest Pro Circuit Points thus far in the season.

If The International 8’s Direct Invites were to be announced tomorrow, there are at least three teams who will be included in the list for sure. These three teams include the TI Champions Team Liquid and the polar bears of Virtus.pro. Team Secret leads the pack with a large margin.

Team Secret showed their prowess and has proven once again that they are one of the strongest contenders coming from the European region, defeating in the Grand Finals TI champions and DreamLeague defending champions Team Liquid. They defeated Team Liquid in the upper bracket finals with a 2:1 score, and showed that that victory was not a fluke by sweeping Team Liquid in the Grand Finals, handing the TI champs their first loss in a Bo5 series since the Manila Major.

Coming in third place was Evil Geniuses, who defeated the fourth placers Natus Vincere at the lower bracket semi-finals.

Winning DreamLeague Season 8 secured Team Secret’s spot on the top of the leaderboards, ending up with 3960 Dota Circuit Points (DCP), almost a thousand more than the second placer, Team Liquid, who sit at 2,700 DCP. Virtus.pro, on the other hand, trails a little bit with 2,295 DCP. These three teams have way higher points compared to the rest of the leaderboard, with Newbee trailing at 4th place with 1,035 DCP, followed by EG with 765, Mineski at 720, Vici Gaming at 540 and Na `Vi at 225.

Securing DCP in Majors do a lot of help in increasing your team’s chances of landing an invite on The International, as the points in the Majors are equivalent to at least three Minors. Na` Vi’s single podium finish of the season so far, for example, has already landed them eighth in the leaderboards, despite only winning fourth place.

Therefore, winning second place in the first ever Major of the season, and then becoming the champions on the second one did great wonders for Team Secret. Apart from their two Major victories, Team Secret has only won joint 3rd/4th in the first Minor of the season, in StarLadder i-League Invitational S3.
