Digital Chaos wins ESL One Genting!

They score their first LAN win after the grand finals against Newbee that went all the way to 5 games.

Digital Chaos finally wins their first premier LAN trophy, at ESL One Genting – silencing their doubters, and taking home the $125,000 top prize. It was a hard-earned victory for sure, as Chinese team Newbee certainly made them work hard for it, the grand finals going the distance into 5 great games of Dota, and lasting up until beyond midnight. Staying up for the grand final was certainly worth it for the viewers, as each match went back and forth between the teams and featured some amazing plays from both teams.

The first game saw Newbee continue their confident play after just having won their semi-final victory over fellow Chinese team Wings Gaming – pulling off the Lifestealer + Slardar combo with ease and allowing Song “Scc” Shun to shine on his Outworld Devourer, netting himself an impressive 16/0/8 KDA.

Digital Chaos brought it back on the second game however, with an extraordinary performance by Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok on the Naga Siren, who was able to acquire his Radiance by the 15-minute mark (his new career record) and constantly pushed out the lanes, with the rest of the team not allowing Newbee to control the map properly.

The third game was another dominant showing from Newbee on the Dire side, with Sccc once again stealing the show on Shadow Fiend, ending the game with a 10/0/3 KDA and Damien “kpii” Chok on Underlord providing control during team fights.

Newbee came in with a high global presence strat in the fourth game via another Underlord pick for kpii and a Wisp pic for Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi, which DC answered with a surprising Leshrac pick for Aliwi “w33” Omar on the midlane. DC remained composed despite the game-3 loss and  displayed impressive map movement and coordination, never allowing the 5-man of Newbee to execute their strat with great help from David “MoonMeander” Tan on the Sandking constantly split-pushing. Resolut1on once again put on a shining performance on Slark, getting himself 9 kills through pickoffs and not dying the entire game.

The fifth game seemed clinical for DC, as they near-flawlessly countered Newbee’s Luna + Templar Assassin lineup with their own Lifestealer + Centaur Warrunner combo, with Resolut1on’s Lifestealer catching out Xu “uuu9” Han’s Luna multiple times and never letting her reach critical mass. Newbee struggled to catch up and were pinned down at their base, ultimately calling GG by the 31-minute mark.

ESL One Genting is 2017’s first premier LAN tournament, and it’s certainly looking bright for Digital Chaos going into the Spring Season.
