Here’s a quick rundown of the tournament.
Presented by Moonduck TV and DotaCinema, Captain’s Draft is the first Dota 2 Pro Circuit event of the year. Qualifying points (150 for 1st place, 90 for 2nd and 30 for semi-finalists) and a $300,000 total prize pool are up for grabs at the LAN tournament in Washington DC this week.
Interestingly, the LAN will be played in the Captain’s Draft game mode – meaning teams will only be picking from a randomized pool of 27 heroes (9 strength, 9 agility, 9 intelligence), and with a randomized first pick and ban order. This also means that heroes that are not yet in Captain’s Mode (Pangolier, Dark Willow and Techies) will also possibly be available in the draft.
The Group Stage to determine seeding will take place in a GSL format with two groups of four, in best-of-one brackets. The groups are assigned as follows:
- Team Secret
- Team Empire
- Vici Gaming
- Evil Geniuses
- compLexity Gaming
- paiN Gaming
The playoffs will then play out in a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket, with the Grand Finals as a best-of-five.
KaLeRei usually can’t shut up about video games, so she writes about them instead. Single-player RPGs or empire-builders/strategy games are her usual cup of tea, but she’s also been an avid follower of the Dota 2 and CS:GO professional scenes for a while. She has a fascination for old pros trying to prove they’ve still got what it takes, and cats.
